Michael Bublé is the latest star to go undercover in Ellen DeGeneres’ ongoing hidden camera prank segment.
The musician, 43, appeared on Friday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he hilariously tried to fool shoppers at the Handy Market in Burbank, California.
Standing behind the checkout, Bublé listened to DeGeneres through an earpiece, doing everything she told him.
His first victim was a celebrity: Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, who unexpectedly found himself in the middle of the stunt by sheer coincidence. “I smell something awry in my Handy Market,” Stonestreet said, before calling out Bublé. “I didn’t want to say anything. Oh my God, you’re so amazing. You’re such a talented guy, man.”

Bublé’s next customer was Sylmar, California-resident Teny Abedian. She watched in confusion as Bublé rang up her items with a fake “beep” noise DeGeneres made him say but remained a good sport — even as the four-time Grammy winner separated her bunch of bananas one by one to scan them.
“Now I can’t hang it,” she said, laughing as Bublé began eating the last one.

After trying to take Sylmar’s credit card information, bagging her items in individual bags, and challenging Sylmar to a bubly drinking contest, Bublé finally revealed his identity.
“I knew you looked familiar but I wasn’t sure,” she said. “I didn’t want to say anything! You are so cute!”
Later, Stonestreet and Abedian both joined Bublé and DeGeneres in the studio of her talk show, to discuss the prank. Bublé revealed that he thought DeGeneres was “reverse punking” him with Stonestreet, 47.
Abedian, meanwhile, was gifted $1,000, courtesy of bubly — Pepsi’s sparkling water brand, which launched in early 2018.

Bublé will be leading bubly’s first Super Bowl commercial, airing during the big game on Feb. 3. The ad — which features Bublé correcting the spelling and pronunciation of the bubly line from “bubly” to “bublé (naturally) — is meant to highlight its four newest flavors: blackberry, cranberry, raspberry and peach. The beverages, which feature pull-tabs with cheery greetings, will join the current flavor lineup, which includes lime, grapefruit, strawberry, lemon, orange, apple, mango and cherry.
“I might be Canadian, but I’m a big fan of American football,” Bublé told PEOPLE in a statement. “I had a blast doing my very first Super Bowl commercial with bublé — I mean bubly. Because of our similar names, the brand and I share a special bond. I love how the cans are bold, bright, and full of personality. They’re perfect for any Super Bowl viewing partés you might be having.”
